July was the closing of the school year here in Mexico. In the last days, the students at the Deaf school presented many topics based on their learning throughout the year. The elementary-age students presented art, while the teens presented Science. Their presentation was on volcanoes and the effects they have on the earth.
Later, towards the end of July, some of the same teen students plus staff gathered at a local place to camp out and swim. Alberto shared Genesis and Creation with those in attendance. He was able to walk around the plants and ask questions of the Deaf. “Who created the moon…plants…clouds…water?… and so on”. Many of them said they didn’t know, and some said that it just came to be. He taught them Genesis 1 & 2, where it shares that God breathed life into every part of what we now know as Earth. A few had questions stemming from their science presentations as well. They asked things like “why doesn’t lava burn up the whole earth or make the earth explode?” Alberto was able to share that God has everything under control. When we feel life can get messy or complicated, we need to give our worries and anxieties to God. Only HE knows what is best for our life and will show us if we put our faith in HIM.
During the camping time, a very sudden and strong storm passed by-I mean, lightning and thunder that made the floors shake. Those swimming quickly jumped out, and we waited in the foyer of this home. About 10 mins later, the sun started peeking out, and some of us wanted to “dance in the rain”. That cool rain took the heat off of the evening but also felt refreshing in other ways. We explained that the rain is like Jesus’ blood, how it was shed for our sins and can give us new life, just like the rain gives life to the plants. It was a great time to connect and share! Many definitely want to continue to go to the meetings in August, and even some want to bring their family or other friends along!
