After many lengthy searches, a more handicap-accessible location was found about 10 minutes south of the downtown location. The new location has four huge rooms, and one of those is large enough to be converted into three separate classrooms. One of our construction contacts will be setting up these walls at a lower cost once the material is purchased. For the time being, the “newer” classrooms are being separated by using old tarps. The estimated cost of materials needed is about $1,500. Please be in prayer that resources will be made available for this project.

This new location is quite a blessing in many wonderful ways. Of course, the location is more handicap accessible and easy to find. The school coordinator, Irene, has started the process of petitioning the municipal office to come and paint, but also certify the space as handicap accessible-friendly. This is a location that will serve many needs for many years. Most of the staff and students will agree that the numerous issues faced in the old locations and moves have been quite exhausting!

In the new facility, there is a room that could easily be converted into a full kitchen, allowing some of the moms to make healthier options for lunches or snacks for the students. Currently, our kitchen appliances consist of a plug-in 2-burner stove and a dorm-size refrigerator that fills up quite quickly. This kitchen would also serve to provide a place to prepare food for fellowship and Bible study meetings or future events.

Speaking of Bible meetings, the Deaf school staff have expressed interest in having Bible studies. A few more are asking for Bibles to read from or check out. Alberto has had several Deaf people asking him questions about baptism and becoming Christians, so he is helping them understand the meaning of such a profession of faith. It seems like meetings may begin soon on Saturday afternoon or Sunday evenings.

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • For the Lord to work in the Deaf to soften their hearts and open their minds to the Gospel and to receive SALVATION!
  • Financial resources to construct the walls to create permanent classrooms in the large space, and to be able to add a kitchen.
  • For the meeting times to be confirmed for the Bible studies that will take place at the school.
  • Safety and guidance during serious trials faced by the school and staff.
  • Strength and guidance for Alberto as he shares his faith with the Deaf and their families.
