Happy New Year! We are excited to share updates from various municipalities in which Marco and I have visited recently.
Dolores Hidalgo: Marco’s recent visit to Dolores Hidalgo was rewarding. There are three Deaf siblings whom we haven’t been able to visit to teach them about Jesus Christ, due to family circumstances. Their progress has been quite slow, largely due to the influence of their parents. Even though they are young adults, they are constantly dependent on them. They do what their parents say, and this has delayed their learning, but we haven’t given up; we continue to work with them, and we are thankful we were finally able to visit with them again.
Celaya: We’ve shared the gospel with about 15 Deaf people in that city, but not without facing persecution. Some of those who are non-believers speak ill of us, and sometimes the other Deaf believe them. But when we go to Celaya, the believers there welcome us warmly. They always open their home to us to share the gospel. In a recent gathering, we shared the gospel with a visitor to Celaya named José. He placed his faith in Jesus, and we’ve connected him to the First Baptist Church, which has a Mexican Sign Language interpreter. We are hoping to connect with and share the Gospel with 5 more people in Celaya soon. In this municipality, some have fallen away, so please pray that the Lord stirs in their hearts and that we can connect with them again.
León: The city of León has the largest number of Deaf, and they display a great love for God and faithfulness in their walk with the Lord. Persecution here is minimal. Several have attended every meeting held over Zoom on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. They are eager to continue getting to know Christ. One of the brothers who had drifted away recently started joining the Zoom meetings again and has been able to attend consistently on Wednesdays. One of the challenges our brothers and sisters in León have faced is accepting correction. They do, however, love God because they continue to meet with us and have told us how much it hurts when they are corrected. In this municipality, three Deaf people have, and we’ve had some say that would join again, but so far they haven’t.
Silao: One of the things that happened to us in these two months is that, through a man from León, we were able to connect with three young people between the ages of 15 and 17. I had the opportunity to share the gospel with them over Zoom, and glory to Christ, all three believed. First, the gospel was shared with a Deaf girl, and at the end, she cried because she said she had never met anyone who loved her so much. She also acknowledged her sinful nature and her need for a savior. She then went upstairs and brought two other teenage boys downstairs. The gospel was shared with them, and the same thing happened: both boys cried when they saw what Jesus Christ did on the cross. God is very, very good! These boys were baptized about three weeks later, of their own volition. They themselves requested the baptism, and Marco Trejo baptized them. They are between 15 and 17 years old, and we are working with them, discipling them. One of them is going through a difficult family situation because his stepfather mistreats him, so please pray for him. These boys are meeting with us via Zoom on Wednesdays.
Another Deaf teenager who stopped meeting with us several months ago at his mother’s insistence decided to come back. We have welcomed him back and will continue discipleship with him. Unfortunately, three other Deaf people in this municipality left, and we ask for prayers for them to commit themselves to Christ.
Querétaro: We’ve been in contact with the brothers and sisters in Querétaro to follow up with them in their love for Christ. They’re progressing fairly well, as the “Christ Saves” Bible Church is providing them with in-person support. They’re currently being taught about baptism, as three of them will be baptized soon.
