This past month, we’ve continued our mission to share the gospel with the Deaf community. Over the last three and a half years, we have preached the message of Jesus Christ to 126 Deaf individuals.
Responses have been mixed. Some have genuinely believed, leading to real and visible changes in their lives, some quickly, others more gradually. Others initially “believed” just to gain resources like 24-hour LSM interpreters, financial support, or our company. When their expectations weren’t met, they chose to leave. Those who remain have seen the magnificent work of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Their commitment is palpable: some are preparing to serve boldly, while others are focused on growing in their knowledge of Christ and personal transformation.
The faith of this Christian Deaf community has had a profound impact on my hearing church members. The simple, intense faith of our Deaf brothers and sisters—their love for Christ and boldness in sharing the gospel—is infectious. It has strengthened the faith of our entire congregation at VIDALTA Conexión, and even the faith of other hearing churches we partner with, like the First Baptist Church in Celaya and the Biblical Church Cristo Salva in Querétaro. Their dedication encourages all of us to step up our service.
This past month, Marco shared the gospel with four Deaf people in the city of Querétaro, and all four believed—praise the Lord! One of them in particular said she had a deep sorrow about herself. Her name is Mariela. That same day, she shared the gospel with her hearing mother, and she, too, believed. We visited with the brothers and sisters of Celaya, Salamanca, Irapuato, Dolores Hidalgo, and León this past month. Their faith in Christ has grown. There are still things they lack in understanding, but their love for Him has grown.
I ask for your prayers for the brothers of these municipalities. In Irapuato, pray for Alejandro, who has not found work. In Salamanca, pray for the Deaf Christians there to remain strong in their faith. For the brothers of León and Querétaro, pray for their love for Christ to grow more and more each day. In Salvatierra, Catholicism is very influential among these Deaf, and also the brothers of Dolores Hidalgo, too, due to their family’s strong Catholic beliefs.
Doors have been opened for us to continue sharing the gospel with more Deaf people in some states: Colima, Querétaro, and wherever the Holy Spirit guides us, but without neglecting the brothers and sisters we already have. Please pray that God would send more hands because the work is growing. The hearing people of the First Baptist Church of Celaya want to know more about the ministry for the Deaf, so please pray that the Lord would call some of them into the ministry. Please pray for Pastor Abel and Genaro, who are leading this work and shepherding me, Marco, and Jazzkara.
Finally, please pray for the Grace Deaf Missions Ministry Team. Marco still doesn’t have a job, but God has provided for his needs. I ask for prayer for myself, because despite everything that’s happening to me on a personal level, I want to preach the gospel to the Deaf with all the love of Christ. Even though I’m missing a partner in my personal life, which suddenly affects me, the Holy Spirit comes and reminds me who I work for, reminds me who I serve, and that lifts me to keep going.
Christ is so good. Glory to Him alone. We will continue to share the gospel with more people, and we will continue to disciple all the Deaf who join the church, so that more people believe in Christ and what He did on the cross.
