Update from Alberto

In July, the students finished school, and the Deaf Teen/Young Adult Leadership Group made their final presentations. They presented on some of the most famous Deaf leaders and scholars. A few were very nervous, as it was their first time presenting to a group. You could see the parents and families were very proud and excited to see such a change in their child.

Some of the teachers at the school have expressed interest in having a Bible class with Alberto. Please pray for Alberto, the teachers interested, and those who don’t feel comfortable attending.

We have a new student, Yulian, who joined the school recently after his parents heard about the school from others in the Deaf community. Yulian is autistic, so when he began attending school, he was a bit intimidated by all the sign language and the various resources available in the school at first. Yulian is taking classes to improve his very basic Spanish, but also to acquire knowledge in communicating using Mexican Sign Language. In the short time he has been attending, the teachers have noticed a change in his demeanor and willingness to learn. Thank the Lord, he may even have a few students to call friends. What a blessing to reach out to students such as Yulian and his family.

Lastly, Reneé saw a post from a mom’s group on Facebook from a local mother who had crossed paths with a deaf man who was cleaning the street in front of her children’s school. Please pray for Jaime, he is a 60-year-old deaf man who has no living family, as we found out through exchanging notes on his notepad. Jaime has a very fluent level of Spanish, as we assume from the decades of writing and not having a better way of communicating. That group of moms paid for Jaime to study at our school. They also have kindly provided him with a living space plus living necessities,  as he was sleeping in the street. Reneé has also invited the moms group to come take sign language classes. It was a blessing to observe Jaime enter the school looking very reserved and then leave with a huge smile on his face! God is so good and so amazing! Please pray for Jaime to come to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior through his time spent with Alberto and at the school.

Update from Pepé

This summer, two deaf people from Silao were baptized, Karen and Gabriel. The ministry team also visited Celaya, Salvatierra, Silao, León, and Salamanca to meet with the brothers and sisters in those municipalities. We are seeing the Lord work in their lives little by little. Some want us to visit with them more often, but it is difficult for us to visit so many spread across central Mexico. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.

On Wednesdays, we have been meeting at Marco’s house to learn from the Word of God, as we study Romans. The good thing is that the book of Romans is that it has been translated into Mexican Sign Language (LSM).

We are beginning to evangelize in Querétaro, and helping the deaf people find a church that has LSM interpreters. We have located two churches with such resources: Cristo Salva and another Baptist Church (we do not have the name yet).

In Celaya, specifically at First Baptist Church, there is an LSM interpreter, and LSM services have already begun with the brothers and sisters there. One of the ministry team members, Coco, will be in charge of following up with the brothers and sisters at the church. I ask for your prayers so that she may do an excellent job.

God is so good and has done things I never imagined seeing—the ministry team is caring for the Deaf community so well and growing in their devotion to Christ every day.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray for the Deaf community in Querétaro, that the ministry team is beginning to meet with them in hopes that they come to know the Lord Jesus, and for the Deaf community in the other municipalities throughout central Mexico
  • Pray for Pastor Abel and Genaro from my church, and the seminar my church has begun to equip the ministry team for evangelism
  • Pray for Karen and Gabriel as they grow in their walk with the Lord, and that more in the Deaf community would come to understand the Gospel
  • Pray that God gives me (Pepé) a wife if that is in his will
